U15s
- Barnsley Vs Rotherham Clifton
ROTHERHAM CLIFTON U15’S 0 - BARNSLEY
U15’S 12
Barnsley U15’s made the short trip to Clifton Lane, Rotherham
and managed not to concede any points for the second consecutive week,
and beat their South Yorkshire rivals by 12 points to 0.
It was the best defensive performance of the season so far by the Shaw
Lane outfit, and credit must go to every player who tackled their hearts
out throughout the game.
The first half started with the huge Rotherham pack driving forward,
but being stopped dead in their tracks by some text book tackling and
rucking by the Barnsley side. Pressure was applied by the back line
constantly and scrum half ‘Fan’ Tuttiett and fly half Josh
Lewis were always sniping at their opposite numbers, which caused the
Rotherham back line to make several mistakes.
It was however centre Adam Parr who made the decisive score. He managed
to rip the ball from the Rotherham forwards and spin off towards the
corner. With only the full back to beat, he produced a neat step and
cut back inside to plant the ball to the right of the posts.
The half continued with the Barnsley pack driving back their Rotherham
counterparts and shipping the ball down the back line at every opportunity
with only some desperate cover defence preventing further scores.
After the break both sides came out fired up but it was Barnsley who
took the initiative almost immediately. After a superb couple of passes
by the centers, the ball was spun to flying winger Greg Colbridge who
turned on the after burners and sprinted past his opposite number for
an outstanding try. He also popped over the conversion.
This appeared to inspire the Rotherham side to come at Barnsley time
and time again, but some immaculate tackling kept them at bay. Special
mention must go to Man of the Match Jordan Fletcher who lead by example
by making tackles constantly throughout, and played his best game in
a Barnsley shirt so far.
Rotherham twice had the ball over the Barnsley line in the closing stages,
but the Shaw Laner’s drove them back on both occasions, and on
the third attempt Sam King managed to rip the ball from the opposition
when a try seemed certain.
‘Shiner of the Week’ award this Sunday fell to ‘Smoking’
Joe Green who will no doubt be retelling the story for the rest of the
season !
The whole squad played with commitment and tenacity throughout the match
and provided a thoroughly entertaining game for both sets of supporters
