U15s
- Barnsley Vs Rotherham Clifton
Barnsley U15’s 21 – Rotherham
Clifton 5
Barnsley U15’s welcomed local rivals Rotherham Clifton to Shaw
Lane and produced another display of fluent rugby to end up as victors
by a 21 to 5 margin.
The first 10 minutes saw Barnsley dominating in the rucks and moving
the ball wide at every opportunity, but the Rotherham defence held firm.
Eventually the constant pressured tolled and the ball was fired out
to centre Liam Roebuck who looked to offload but then dipped his shoulder
and stepped inside. He showed great determination and used his long
stride to glide past the remaining defenders to score. Captain Dominic
Barrow, unlike Johnny Wilkinson, had no problem with the boot, and duly
added the conversion. This continued his 100% record from last week.
The second try came from Blake Marsland-Gray, who recently returned
from a stint at rugby league. He showed his instinct for finishing is
still strong and forced his way over using a typical hand-off. Dominic
Barrow added the conversion from a difficult angle.
Rotherham Clifton were still far from out of the contest and their number
8 managed to score just after half time after the Barnsley defence failed
to react to a quick penalty.
The third Barnsley try was a fine individual effort by fly half Josh
Lewis. He produced two subtle side-steps at full pace to round the opposition
centre and full back to score under the posts. Dominic Barrow added
the extra two points to keep up the side’s record of converting
the last ten tries they have scored.
Barnsley man of the match was Kane Feek who put in some thunderous tackles
throughout the game and inspired his fellow players to a great effort
in defence.
