U15s - Malton and Norton Vs Barnsley

Barnsley U15’s 50 Malton & Norton U15’s 0

Barnsley U15’s travelled to the historic North Yorkshire market town of Malton and came away with a creditable 50 – 0 victory against Malton & Norton U15’s. The home side were a couple of players short, and having a large squad Barnsley were able to ask for volunteers to play for the opposition. Thanks must go to Luke Denton and Pottsy who donned the red, black and white shirts, but the Barnsley hooker came to regret it in the second half following a crunching tackle from team mate Greg Colbridge, and a wild ‘haymaker’ from Adam ‘the Dodworth Demon’ Parr.

Barnsley opened the scoring after five minutes from a set scrum. The ball was moved out wide to Greg Colbridge who made no mistake, and finished with some style in the corner.

The Malton & Norton forwards then set up a series of rucks which pushed Barnsley deep in to their own half. However, Sam King showed his footballing skills by clearing the ball down field. The ever alert Greg Colbridge chased down the kick which sat up perfectly into his bread basket, and he scored under the posts . Josh Lewis added the conversion.

The next try was a typical Josh Lewis effort as he picked the ball up and set off on a diagonal run. The fly half then dummied before cutting back inside to score a fine individual try.

Josh then followed it up with another blast up the blind side, and out-witted the number eight, winger and full back to make the score at half time 24 – 0.
The second half saw the Barnsley backs again making in-roads in to the Malton & Norton half. Some slick handling saw the ball moved to Joe Maycroft who used his long stride to ghost over in the corner to the cries of ‘Life is a box of chocolates’.
The sixth try came from a rolling maul by the forwards who pressed closer and closer to the Malton & Norton line. It was the ever improving Sam Wollerton who emerged from the pile of bodies with the ball to claim the try.

He has been threatening to do it for weeks but ‘Super Fit’ Sam King finally scored his first try in a Barnsley shirt. He snaffled the ball 40 metres out and jinked his way through the tough-tackling defence to score under the posts. Josh Lewis added the conversion.

The final effort has to go down as the longest of the season so far. Greg Colbridge picked the ball up under pressure just 5 metres from his own line and sprinted 95 metres to score under the posts and secure another hat-trick.

Although it was a decisive victory, Malton & Norton never gave in and consistently played well in the rucks and mauls.

The man of the match award was again a difficult decision for the opposition coach to make. Corey had a superb game, hunting down everything that moved. Kane and Blake tackled their hearts out and Jamie Todd hammered his way close to the line, but he settled on the try scoring machine that is Greg Colbridge.
