U15s - Barnsley Vs Percy Park

BARNSLEY U15’S 5 V PERCY PARK U15’S 15

Barnsley U15’s had no scheduled game for the weekend and so opted to go into the ‘pool’.
It was North East side Percy Park who made the long trip down the A1 and provided the Shaw Lane side with a cracking game.

The Tynesiders were victorious by a margin of 15 – 5 but the crowd were gripped by a superb entertaining game and the result could have gone either way right up to the final few minutes.

The first half saw the Shaw Lane side pressing hard for an opening score and Greg Colbridge almost provided the first try, but unfortunately the ball had gone forward just before he received it.

Percy Park looked dangerous on the break but superb defence by the whole Barnsley pack kept them at bay. Also Josh Lewis kept the visitors pegged back in their own half with some deadly accurate touch kicking, and the first half ended honours even at 0 – 0.
The second half saw the Barnsley side make a number of changes, but the new influx of players were just as determined in defence, and they kept the score level right up until the final quarter of the match.

From a tap down at a line out the visitors intercepted a loose ball and managed to squeeze over for an opportunist score.

The Shaw Laners soon hit back with captain Dominic Barrow electing to take a quick penalty and he managed to force his way over to make the score 5 – 5.
The game was still on a knife edge when Percy Park were awarded a penalty. They elected to kick and duly converted the three points.

The last five minutes saw Barnsley pressing hard but the visitors managed the final word when their pack drove over in the corner, and the full back added the conversion to make it 15 – 5.

Man of the match went to Josh Lewis for his all round display but he does need to practice drinking the orange and coke mix after the match !

After such a competitive game played in the right spirit the Shaw Laners are hopeful of a return trip to the north east in the near future.

Finally thanks must go to everyone who helped out with the after match catering for Pottsy and Jamie’s birthday bash – everyone enjoyed it, especially the chocolate fountain !!
