U15s
- Pocklington
Vs Barnsley
POCKLINGTON 29 - BARNSLEY 5
Barnsley U15’s travelled to Pocklington on their third consecutive
away trip and were beaten 29-5 in a very scrappy game. The first half
followed a familiar pattern with Barnsley dominating the rucks and mauls,
but being unable to turn their possession in to points. Pocklington
used their pace and scored three tries, two of which were converted.
This would have probably have been more except for some fine cover tackling
from wingers Luke Denton and Joe Moorhouse. Just before half time Pocklington
grabbed an opportunist try after Barnsley failed to clear their lines. After
the break the Shaw Lane side were much more determined and played some
excellent driving rugby. The forwards forced their way ever closer to
the Pocklington line and following a 20 metre run man of the match,
Jordan Fletcher scored his first try in a Barnsley shirt. Unfortunately
Pocklington struck back with a quick tap penalty which caught the Barnsley
defence napping.
The game then deteriorated in the final
quarter with some mystifying refereeing decisions for both sides, which
led to a very scrappy finish.
The Barnsley team seemed certain to score
when camped on the Pocklington line, but somehow the home side managed
to clear the ball. It was at this point that Barnsley prop Jamie Todd
suffered an injury but thankfully following treatment by the Barnsley
medical support of Karen Moss and N. Yorkshire paramedics he made a
full recovery.
