U15s
- Selby Vs Barnsley
SELBY U15’S 42 - BARNSLEY
U15’S 12
Barnsley U15’s traveled to North Yorkshire on a typical autumn
morning of sunshine and showers and showed great tenacity despite being
defeated by 42 – 12.
The tackling by the forwards and great defence by the backs held Selby
until the 10 minute mark when a slick interpassing move enabled the
hosts to score wide out.
Barnsley made several forays into the Selby half but were unable to
turn the pressure into points, and the home side used their well organised
back line to score a further 3 tries before the visitors best move of
the first half. The ball was chased down in the Selby half and following
a powerful rolling maul Tom Henighan spun his way out of a tackle and
forced his way over in the corner.
The second half began at a tremendous pace and despite some excellent
covering tackles the Barnsley defence was unable to stop the Selby backs
scoring 3 tries wide out.
Then came Barnsley’s best period of the match with both forwards
and backs tackling their hearts out and forcing errors from the well
drilled Selby side. After winning the ball deep in the opposition half
Sam Wollerton picked the ball up from a ruck and smashed his way over
the line. Josh Lewis added a superb conversion from a difficult angle.
Despite further pressure being applied Barnsley were unable to add any
further points and conceded a late try.
Special mention must go to Jordan Marples who had a solid game, his
first in a Barnsley shirt, but the man of the match award went to Joe
Maycroft for his excellent tackling and marshalling of the defensive
line.
