U15s
- Barnsley
Vs
Wath
Barnsley U15’s played
hosts to local rivals Wath, and despite having several players missing
they managed to come out on top by a margin of 39 – 3.
Shaw Lane was bathed in glorious late winter sunshine, and the game
started at a red hot pace with the Barnsley forwards using the ruck
ball to good effect in the opening five minutes.
The first try came from a set piece with the ball being moved from the
base of a scrum where Liam ‘Twizzle’ Roebuck received it
at fly half. He picked a clever line of running and managed to carve
his way through the Wath backs to score out wide.
Soon after Adam Parr used a clever tactical kick to clear the Wath full
back and the loose ball was pounced on by number 8 Tom Henighan. He
used his power and pace to force his way over in the corner.
Next on the score sheet was ‘Super’ Max Brooke who chose
to ignore a three man overlap and cut inside to plant the ball over
the line. Liam Roebuck added the conversion.
The second half started with both sides committing a host of infringements
but second row Joe Green managed to pounce on a low kick off, and the
ball was fed to the ever ready Tom Henighan. He again showed agility
and pace to outwit the Wath defence and score in the corner.
The fifth try resulted from a ‘front of the line out’ move
which was quickly passed to centre Adam Parr. He jinked his way through
3 tackles to score a well worked try.
Twizzle’s dad once again staked a pint of coke on the outcome
of the conversion and lost. It was Joe Green who cleaned him out by
slotting the ball through the uprights – his first points for
the club !
Captain Kane Feek was sporting a Kamikazi style head guard due to his
helmet falling to bits, but it didn’t stop him swooping on an
opposition line out, and crashing over for the sixth try.
The final effort of the day came from a lovely handling move by the
backs. Matthew ‘Choco’ Thornton was on the end of a superb
inside pass and used his excellent acceleration to outwit the Wath back
line and score on his debut.
The joint man of the match as chosen by the referee went to Liam Roebuck
in the backs, and the irrepressible Sam Moss in the forwards.
Credit must go to the youthful Wath side who never gave in, and tackled
well throughout the game.
