U15s - Barnsley Vs Yarnbury

BARNSLEY U15’S 39 YARNBURY U15’S 0

Barnsley U15’s welcomed Yarnbury to Shaw Lane on a blustery, wind swept day and provided a display of flowing rugby under particularly difficult conditions.

The Barnsley pack opened up the game at a tremendous pace, and from a scrum the ball was moved out wide for winger Greg Colbridge to touch down in the corner. Captain Dominic Barrow added the difficult conversion in the swirling wind.

The home side then replicated a move from the pre-match warm up by moving the ball inside and out, in a tight rolling maul, and Dominic Barrow finished it off in fine style taking the score to 12-0.

Josh Lewis then latched on to a fine pass from the base of a ruck with 10 metres to go to the line. He used his strength and guile to evade two tackles before crashing over.

The fourth score was an opportunist try by Greg Cranston who intercepted a stray Yarnbury pass. Like a slippery eel he slithered round the last line of defence and outsprinted everyone to score from 60 metres out. Dominic Barrow duly added the conversion.

The second half saw Yarnbury make use of the gale force wind and they started playing some excellent rugby. The tackling from both sides measured more than the puny 5.2 on the Richter scale that was felt earlier in the week, and it seemed as if a stalemate had been reached.

However some superb work by scrum half Natt Tuttiet saw a pass fired down the back line and winger Joe ‘Forest Gump’ Maycroft remembered to stop running this week after he crossed the line, and he touched down for the fifth try.

He then repeated the feat after the pack had won a ball against the head, and used his pace out wide to score a well worked try.

The final word went to Dominic Barrow who collected the ball 15 metres from his own line and outpaced the entire Yarnbury defence to slide over for the seventh try.

Credit must go to the entire Barnsley side who played some excellent rugby throughout the match. The ball was recycled superbly by the forwards, and some of the passing by the backs was outstanding.

The man of the match award went jointly to scrum half`s Callan Mellor and Natt Tuttiett and special mention must go to Joe Moorhouse who stepped in at hooker from his usual position on the wing and did a fine job.
