BARNSLEY GET SNAGGED ON A THORNE
Thorne opened their account with a penalty
kick after 5 minutes, 0 – 3.
The home team rounded off a series of drives to the Barnsley line with
a converted try after a further 7 minutes. 0 – 10
Barnsley then began to show a little more cohesion, with a series of
counter attacks, lead by the impressive Kieron Holmes at number 8. The
final attack in the series going over the line but being denied a try
due to a double movement.
Thorne re-asserted their control slotting another penalty kick to make
the score 0 – 13. Half time came shortly after.
The resumption of the second half saw Barnsley
perhaps getting the better of both the line out and the scrum, but failing
to capitalise on their possession, silly errors letting them down at
vital moments.
Thorne were far more clinical with their chances, their powerful centre
scything through a none-existent Barnsley defence to score a converted
try 10 minutes into the half. 0 – 20
The game finished with each side counter attacking with no further scores,
but by then the game had been over for a while.
Barnsley MOTM – Tyler Smith
Had the better of his counterpart, and controlled the line out and scrum.
Mention in dispatches – 3 other lads who impressed were Kieron
Holmes who was dynamic at 8 before having to retire, and Tom Wilford,
both in the line out, and in the loose where he showed glimpses of his
potential, and it’s only his second game ever.
Will O’Loughlin also injected some zip and pace as replacement
scrum half.
